The course has two distinct aims:
Defensive driving is a style of road driving that helps you avoid other driver’s mistakes and allows you to create the important elements of time and space around your vehicle.
Candidates will be encouraged to develop a systematic approach to everyday hazards and anticipate potential hazards earlier by enhancing their all-round observation skills.
Drivers who apply methods of systematic and safe driving techniques show a considerable reduction in the risk of being involved in an accident. By driving in a more careful and environmentally responsible way, a driver can be safer, whilst at the same time cutting exhaust emissions, saving fuel and reducing the wear & tear on the vehicle.
A typical course can be run over ½ a day for 1 candidate or a full day for up to three candidates.
The course will involve an in classroom or in car theory element depending on the availability of a room. The theory session will last around half an hour for 1 candidate or 1½ hours for three candidates. The rest of the day is taken up with the on road session with lunch generally taken on the road. The day ends with a final debrief and risk profile.
The theory session covers pertinent information on road safety strategies and the importance of defensive driving techniques the session is light hearted, informative and interactive and provides a good way to allow the trainer to get to know the candidates and their attitudes toward driving.
After the theory session the trainer will introduce the candidates to the importance of vehicle checks prior to initially driving the vehicle. Then each candidate will drive for a short period in order that the trainer can assess a baseline for the training to begin. A demonstration drive by the trainer will follow and then each candidate takes turns behind the wheel. The training is fun and highly interactive encouraging participation from the delegates.
Considerably improve the safety of your fleet and employees.
