The speed recognition course is designed for any driver that has accumulated six or more penalty points on their driving licence, as a result of repeatedly breaking the speed limit. It is aimed at educating drivers who are at risk of losing their licence through 'totting up' or being potentially convicted for excessive speeding at court. Some drivers use the final report as a practical demonstration of their intention to improve their driving, safety and avoid repeat offending.
A typical course can be run over ½ a day for 1 candidate or a full day for up to three candidates.
The course will involve an in classroom or in car theory element depending on the availability of a room. The theory session will last around half an hour for 1 candidate or 1 1/2 hours for three candidates. The rest of the day is taken up with the on road session with lunch generally taken on the road. The day ends with a final debrief and risk profile.
Drivers break speed limits for a wide variety of different reasons. Our course aims to tackle the likely causes of speed by raising a driver's awareness of the associated dangers - both to themselves, their passengers and other road users - as well as the potential and real consequences of speeding. Drivers are far more likely to accept and conform to recommended limits if they understand the reasoning behind speed limits and how to identify and distinguish between the limits imposed on various roads types and different road vehicles.
