Emergency Evacuation

This course has primarily been designed for organisations with accessible minibuses where complications may arise when there is a need to evacuate passengers with restricted mobility from the vehicle quickly and safely. Candidates will be taught the ‘golden rules’ of emergency evacuation and shown how to risk assess situations to ensure readiness for an emergency event. Although the course is mainly aimed at accessible minibuses many of the practises are also common to standard minibuses.

The aim of the course is to give confidence and know-how to drivers and passenger assistants to enable them to evacuate the minibus in an emergency situation.

The course is designed for up to 10 candidates per session who will work in teams providing role play situations both in the minibus and in the immediate areas surrounding the minibus.

The course is a 3 hour practical session.

Topics Covered:

The course covers the safety aspects and considerations involved in evacuating a vehicle in an emergency situation Drivers and passenger assistants will benefit from a deeper understanding of the crucial role they play in the safe and efficient evacuation of the minibus and gain considerable confidence in applying learnt techniques to real life situations.

Candidates on the course will be encouraged to create planned evacuation procedures and when confidence and ability are seen to be improving toward the end of the course, a smoke machine can be used to recreate real life scenarios.
