Test of Coaching Ability

The test will assess your ability to identify, analyse, prioritise and remedy risk areas in a clients driving and complete a risk profile. The test will last for approximately 60 minutes and will require you to:-

  • Identify the client’s level of experience
  • Involve the client in an interactive vehicle check
  • Demonstrate to the client all the necessary pre-start checks
  • Give a short in-car presentation designed to raise awareness of occupational road risk
  • Identify and prioritise risk areas and compile them into an initial risk profile (following a “natural” drive of approx. 10 mins)
  • Demonstrate coaching methods which will reduce identified risks
  • Give the client a final risk profile which highlights strengths, weaknesses and areas for further improvement

The Examiner will play the role of either an experienced or inexperienced company driver and will exhibit one or more of the following characteristics, which you will be expected to identify and correctly assess:

  • Over-confident drivers
  • Passive drivers
  • Inconsiderate drivers
  • Lack of skill / judgement
