Practical Test of Driving Ability

This is a test of your driving technique and ability lasting approximately 60 minutes. The test requires you to deliver an instructional commentary lasting around 10 minutes.

The test route will include a wide variety of road and traffic conditions on a route which will include motorways, dual carriageways, country roads, railway level crossings, 20 mph zones and city centre traffic. The test will also incorporate one reversing exercise.

You will be expected to follow the system of car control as detailed in Driving - The Essential Skills and Roadcraft, The Police Drivers Manual.
A strict but realistic marking system will be used to assess your drive and you will receive a comprehensive written report of your performance.
PDS will supply the test vehicle although you are welcome to use your own suitable vehicle if you prefer. There will be a pre-test eyesight and license check and a brief explanation of the test by the Examiner.
