Course Overview

Aims & Objectives

The course is intended to provide you with all the real life skills and attributes necessary for success in the fleet driver training industry, including planning and delivering training programmes, presentation techniques, risk assessment, client profiling & advice and guidance on marketing your services.

The course runs over five days from Monday to Friday all year round and takes place at our Training Centre in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. Candidates requiring overnight accommodation can be supplied with a local bed and breakfast but this is not included in the course fee.

Included in the fee is all training, lunch and refreshments, supply of vehicles for training and test, course literature and one attempt at all three qualifying exams.

On successful completion of the course you will be eligible to join the DSA’s Fleet Driver Trainer Register and awarded a Diploma in Fleet Driver Training.

Course Aims

The aims of the course is to equip delegates with all the core skills, attributes, confidence and ability necessary to deliver high quality training to companies or individuals and target their specific needs.

Course Objectives

Successful completion of the course will enable delegates to:

  • Identify and analyse risk areas within a client’s driving;
  • Prioritise identified risks and produce a remedy to reduce them to an acceptable level;
  • Complete an individual driver risk profile and final analysis;
  • Deliver an interactive presentation designed to raise a client’s awareness of occupational road risk;
  • Demonstrate coaching techniques displaying appropriate level of instruction, use of question & answer techniques and appropriate levels of client feedback & encouragement;
  • Deliver instructional commentary on varying road traffic and weather conditions;
  • Identify and neutralise barriers to learning;
  • Facilitate active learning;
  • Prove their ability as a coach of occupational drivers through theory and practical examinations.

PDS have produced a comprehensive course booklet to guide you through the course. It is laid out to match the running order of the course. Where applicable, it will point you to the relevant reading required to maintain your progress and improve your knowledge in conjunction with the training received.

Just as importantly it has been designed as an additional study aid, a workbook, in which you will have the opportunity to make relevant notes throughout the duration of the course. The booklet then becomes a valuable source of information and a record of your personal thoughts, ideas and development during the week.
